I miss Lorde. Instagram reminded me of this moment back in 2013 when I was sitting in the front row of the press room backstage at the GRAMMY nominations event. Lorde received three nods that year for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. I remember she was all smiles; genuinely surprised by the accolades. Her breakthrough record “Royals” ended up winning big that year. Looking back, there’s no question that Lorde has been one of the most important female artists of the past decade. Lorde’s lyrical candor and hyper-aware storytelling captured the voice of a generation. There’s no question that she helped pave the way for artists like Billie Eilish who expressed a similar sentiment in their own unique way. Since releasing Melodrama in 2017, Lorde has been living and learning, and I can’t wait what to hear she does next.
